Tanner’s commitment to the Buckeyes is not exactly a surprise, but it is still nice to make it official.

He chose Ohio State over the likes of Northwestern, Stanford, Yale, Vanderbilt and Duke, highlighting that Ronald excels in the classroom as well as on the football field.

Tanner also had offers from pretty much the entire Big Ten, as well as Arizona State, Boston College, West Virginia, and Pitt.

Tanner is ranked the #7 safety in the country by scout.com.

Between Tanner and Vannett, Ohio State has had twice as many top 20 (at their position) commits in the last three days than Michigan has had in their entire 2011 class. Keep up the great work Rodriguez, we love you!

First things first, a big congratulations to Mr. Miller on an excellent college choice.

If he keeps his head on straight, he has the tools to be the next great QB at The Ohio State University. Exciting stuff. For evaluation and video of what he brings to the table, check out our coverage from earlier in the week.

It is a good day because Miller is on board as a Buckeye, but it may be an even better  day because of the implications that Miller’s commitment has for the rest of the class.

There hasn’t been much action on the recruiting front over the past week, so I am going to list the players I think are the most likely to become a part of this, most likely at the top, least likely at the bottom.

Pretty simple, I know, but it’s better than nothing for the week.

Buckeyes, but when?

TE Nick Vannett

His choice was made for him last week when Ben Koyack committed to Notre Dame. Duane Long thinks he will be a Buckeye within the next week.

DL Michael Bennett

He is down to Northwestern and Ohio State. It would be a monumental recruiting coup if Northwestern pulled this one off. Academics are obviously important to him.

While Heuerman’s commitment was unexpected, it is always nice when kids visit Ohio State and the coaching staff and instantly know that it is for them.

No other players have committed yet, but I think the possibility of a few more deciding within the next week or two is high.

The weekend also created a lot of positive buzz for some highly touted players that I had previously written off. I am still going to write most of them off, but it is good when people say nice things about Ohio State.

There are still no commits at QB for this class but until further notice, it is Braxton Miller or nothing. Miller is one of the top prospects in the country and will be an outstanding ‘get’ for the Buckeyes.

The good news is that a lot of people (including myself) think it is a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’ Miller will become a Buckeye. The extreme optimist in me hopes that he commits during the spring game and starts recruiting his peers who will be in attendance.
